ITO ITO BAG is designed for Tokyo Yarn Crawl 2025, featuring Fibre Gentili Mediterraneo.

Your download includes two files: the English pattern and the Japanese pattern.

The pattern is also available on yamagaraknits.com which accepts payment through PayPal and Stripe.

ITO ITO BAG is an intarsia pattern that can be knitted as a tote bag or a drawstring bag. Both bags are knitted from the bottom up, beginning with modified Judy’s Magic Cast On, which is a provisional cast on method on two needles. Each side of the bag is knitted flat following charts, then seamed together using mattress stitch. If you are a beginner of intarsia knitting, refer to linked technique tutorials to familiarise yourself with joining new yarn, changing colours, and managing yarn.

The intarsia patterns in Ito Ito Bag are beginner friendly. The level of difficulty builds up as you progress. The first chart begins with only 2 balls of yarn, and increases to a maximum of 4 balls of yarn. The second chart begins with 4 balls of yarn and increases to a maximum of 6 balls of yarn, with a loop stitch section thrown in for challenge and fun. Through this project, you can get familiar with basic techniques in intarsia knitting.

The tote bag is knitted to a size that matches a store-bought cotton tote bag (B5 size Muji Cotton My Bag, or similar). It finishes with an i-cord bind off on the top edge. After blocking, the cotton tote bag is sewn onto the inside of the bag to give it sturdy handles and a non-stretchy lining. The drawstring bag finishes with casings and cords.

An additional 3.5 mm / US 4, 40 cm / 16” circular needle for provisional cast on

3 mm / US 2½, 40 cm / 16” circular needle, for picking up sts and 3-needle BO
Optional: Two 3 mm / US 2½ DPNs for i-cords

GAUGE (after blocking)

20.5 sts and 30 rows = 10 cm / 4” in St st with 3.5 mm / US 4 needle

Gauge is not crucial if you are making the drawstring bag.
If you are making the tote bag, it is important to match the gauge above so that your knitted bag works with the B5 size tote bag described.

NOTIONS

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends, stitch holders / waste yarn.

Additional notions for tote bag:
Sewing needle; thread that matches C1 / the colour used for the i-cord BO.

Additional notions for drawstring bag:
A threader or safety pin for inserting cords through the casings; ribbons, strings or other alternatives in place of the knitted i-cords.

ITO ITO Bagは、トートバッグとしても巾着バッグとしても編める、縦糸渡しの編み込みのパターンです。どちらのバッグも ボトムアップで、「Judy’s Magic Cast On」をアレンジした、2本の針を使って作る作り目で編み始めます。バッグの両側 はチャートに沿って平らに編み、すくいとじで縫い合わせます。縦糸渡しの編み込みの初心者の方は、リンク先のテク ニック・チュートリアルを参考に、新しい糸のつなぎ方、色の替え方、糸の扱い方などに慣れてください。

ITO ITO Bagの縦糸渡しの編み込み模様は初心者にも編みやすいデザインです。編み進めるにつれて難易度も上がっ ていきます。最初のチャートは2玉の糸から始まり、最大4玉まで増えます。2つめのチャートは、4玉の糸から始まり、最 大6玉の糸まで増やします。途中にループステッチのセクションもあり、チャレンジの要素と楽しさが加わります。この作 品を編むと、縦糸渡しの編み込みの基本テクニックに慣れることができます。

トートバッグは市販のコットン・トートバッグに合うサイズに編まれています。上端はi-cordバインドオフで仕上げます。ブ ロッキング後、コットン・トートバッグを内側に縫い付けて、持ち手を丈夫に、中も伸びないようにします。巾着バッグはひ も通し口とコードで仕上げます。
