New Terrain is an updated version of Terrain Tee, originally created in collaboration with We Are Knitters for their Makers Around the World Collection: Summer Edition 2021. The original pattern was available exclusively as part of a yarn kit sold by WAK. As the kits are now sold out and WAK no longer holds the copyright to the pattern, the design has been updated and renamed as New Terrain.
New Terrain is more than just a name change—it comes with a range of thoughtful improvements. It is now seamless, knit top-down in the round and is available in a wider range of sizes. Short rows are added at the shoulders to create a more tailored and comfortable fit. The revised, cropped length lends the piece a fresh, refined silhouette. If you prefer a longer tee, refer to the instructions for guidance on where and how to add length.
The design is inspired by mountains and the natural landscape. Stylized with clean, angular motifs, the linear patterns are created using vertical and diagonal slipped stitches across the fabric.
Styling Tips
With its clean lines and slightly cropped silhouette, New Terrain pairs effortlessly with high-waisted trousers, skirts, or shorts. Wear it with a flowy midi skirt for a soft, balanced look, or style it with tailored pants or denim for a more structured outfit. The reversible design also allows for subtle variation in styling—choose the side that best complements your mood or outfit.
NOTES AND TECHNIQUES
New Terrain is knit from the top down, starting at the shoulders with short rows shaping. The front and back are worked flat to the underarms, then joined and worked in the round to the hem. The neckline is left unfinished, allowing the stockinette stitch to roll naturally. The armholes are finished with 1x1 ribbing.
Before you begin, knit a gauge swatch for the front pattern using the written instructions, with an accompanying chart provided for reference. The front pattern on the actual tee is worked from written instructions designed to be easy to follow.
